The Outside Circle Response

I really enjoyed this book and thought there was a lot of truthful messages in it that were great to read and see in the form of a graphic novel. However, some of these truths were harsh and sad. The reality is that a lot gets passed down from parent to parent. If you have a rough childhood and rough parenting, it may mean the same thing can happen to you as a parent.

The part that I want to focus on in this blog post is the use of the white mask. I like how it showed this mask coming on to people when their violent side/protective side came out. It showed that people that get themselves in to these situations, or are put into these situations due to their background, are real life people too. I think that it was important to note this. The way it was visualized in the graphic novel was pretty powerful and unique.
