This was a refreshing new type of graphic novel! I haven't read anything even remotely close to this before, and I have really enjoyed reading it. For this blog, I want to focus on the imagery and visual aspects. There is a lot going on and it is quite different than the other graphic novels that we have read. If I could describe it in one word the word would be unpredictable. There is no way to predict what the next page will have. There is not a structure as there was in Persepolis. Something we talked about in class that I want to stress in this post is that there are times where the reader doesn't even know the correct starting point to read from! This is apparent in the first chapter on pages 6 and 7. I was blown away and didn't know where to begin. However, once I picked a place I was able to understand what was happening in that scene... even if I didn't begin with the place that the author intended. The uses of articles, lists, varied fonts, wild images, and more creates a new type of atmosphere in this novel that I found enjoyable!
